Carrie Frye is a writer and editor living in Asheville, North Carolina. Since founding Black Cardigan Edit in 2016, she's worked on numerous New York Times bestsellers and award-nominated novels, memoirs, and works of nonfiction. Before that, she was the managing editor for the late beloved website The Awl, and she was the editor of the anthology The Awl: The Book, published in February 2025.
She's a novelist, sometime poet, and nonfiction writer (links to a few pieces below). She's also a member of Flaming Hydra, a cooperative of independent journalists and artists that puts out a newsletter each weekday. She's currently at work on a nonfiction book about the painters Leonora Carrington and Remedios Varo.
